Plains Zebra

Plains zebras are instantly recognisable for their striking black-and-white striped coats, with each individual pattern being completely unique. These social animals are highly adaptable and are most often seen moving together in large herds across the savannah.

Despite their bold appearance, zebras rely heavily on group living for protection. Living in numbers helps to reduce the risk of predation, and they are quick to alert one another with distinctive barking calls when danger is near.

Plains zebras spend a large proportion of their day grazing, often feeding for many hours to meet their nutritional needs from coarse grasses. Their endurance, social structure, and adaptability make them a key species of the African grasslands.
