Pygmy Marmoset

Pygmy marmosets are the smallest monkeys in the world, known for their tiny size, quick movements, and highly social behaviour. Despite weighing only around 120–130 grams, they are incredibly active and intelligent, living in close-knit family groups where communication and cooperation are key.

These agile primates spend most of their day in the trees of the Amazon rainforest, where they use their sharp teeth to gnaw small holes in bark to access tree gum and sap. Their lightweight bodies and strong claws allow them to move easily through branches, making them perfectly adapted to life high in the canopy.

At the end of the Discovery Trail, visitors can watch the pygmy marmoset troop through viewing windows or in their outdoor habitat, which includes robinia trees, bamboo, and climbing structures designed to mirror their natural environment. Their lively calls and expressive behaviour make them a fascinating species to observe up close.
