Meerkat
Meerkats are highly social and energetic animals known for their playful behaviour and strong group bonds. Living in organised groups called mobs, they rely on teamwork to survive in the harsh, arid environments of southern Africa.
These curious animals spend their days foraging for food and exploring their surroundings, often using an extensive network of burrows for shelter and safety. Within the group, individuals take turns acting as sentries, standing upright on their hind legs to keep watch for predators and alert the mob if danger approaches.
At the Safari Park’s African Village, visitors can watch meerkats as they socialise, dig, and interact in their specially designed habitat, complete with tunnels, vantage points, and heat lamps. Daily talks and feeding sessions also offer a closer look at their behaviour and the arrival of new members to the group, making them a firm favourite with guests of all ages.
