Banteng

Banteng are a rare species of wild cattle known for their distinctive colouring and striking appearance. Males develop a dark brown coat as they mature, while females remain a lighter chestnut colour, making it easy to tell them apart. Their pale lower legs and white markings give the appearance of “white socks”, making them especially recognisable.

In the wild, banteng inhabit open forests and grasslands where they spend much of their time grazing and browsing for vegetation. They are naturally cautious animals and often live in small groups, relying on their awareness and strong herd instincts for protection.

Wild banteng populations have declined significantly due to habitat loss, hunting, and human activity. Conservation programmes play an important role in helping to protect this endangered species and preserve the habitats they rely on for survival.
