Northern Giraffe
Northern giraffes are the tallest land animals on Earth, instantly recognisable by their long necks, patterned coats, and graceful movements across the savannah. Each individual has a unique coat pattern, much like a fingerprint, which helps them recognise one another within the herd.
These gentle giants are highly adapted to life at height, with specialised blood circulation that ensures oxygen reaches the brain even when they lower their heads to drink. Strong valves and elastic blood vessels help regulate blood flow, preventing dizziness despite their towering stature.
Northern giraffes spend much of their time browsing on treetops, using their long, flexible tongues to reach leaves high above the ground. Their calm nature and striking appearance make them one of the most iconic species on the Safari Drive.
