Indian Rhino

Indian rhinos are powerful yet surprisingly agile animals, capable of running at speeds of up to 25mph. Despite their heavily armoured appearance, they are light on their feet and often move quickly when needed.

These impressive mammals are instantly recognisable by their thick, plated skin, which gives them a natural “armour-like” look. Beneath this tough exterior is a layer of fat that helps regulate body temperature, allowing them to stay comfortable in both hot and cooler conditions.

In the wild, Indian rhinos are found in grasslands, forests, and wetlands along riverbanks and swampy areas, where they are strong swimmers and spend much of their time in or near water. Their horn is mainly used for foraging, helping them to pull and break apart vegetation rather than for fighting.

Indian rhinos are native to small regions of India and the foothills of the Himalayas, from Nepal to Bhutan. As herbivores, they feed mainly on grasses, leaves, and fruit, playing an important role in shaping their wetland ecosystems.
