Bactrian Camels

Bactrian camels are remarkable animals perfectly adapted to survive in some of the harshest environments on Earth. Their thick, shaggy coats help protect them from extreme temperatures, shedding seasonally as conditions change throughout the year.

Easily identified by their two humps, Bactrian camels store fat reserves that can be converted into energy and water when food and moisture are scarce. This unique adaptation allows them to travel long distances across dry, arid landscapes with limited access to resources.

While most Bactrian camels today are domesticated, a small population still survives in the wild across remote desert regions of Central and Southern Asia. These rare wild camels are critically important to conservation efforts aimed at protecting the species in its natural habitat.
