Common Eland

Common eland are the largest species of antelope, known for their impressive size, spiral horns, and distinctive dewlap - a fold of loose skin beneath the neck that helps with temperature regulation. Despite their size, they are calm and adaptable animals that move gracefully across the landscape.

These remarkable ungulates are well suited to a variety of habitats, from wooded savannahs to more arid regions, and are capable of travelling long distances in search of food and water. Their ability to survive in challenging environments makes them one of the most resilient antelope species.

Common eland are found across southern Africa, where they feed on a varied diet including grasses, leaves, fruits, and pods. Their strength, adaptability, and gentle nature make them a fascinating species to observe.
