Tiger Takeover for May Half Term

We have introduced a brand-new event this year which will continue to run this May half term, celebrating the arrival of three endangered Sumatran tiger cubs, born at the start of the year.

To honour this significant milestone in tiger conservation, we are hosting 'Tiger Takeover,' offering guests an array of tiger-themed activities and the opportunity to see the adorable cubs.

The 'Tiger Takeover' event will take place daily from 24 May to 1 June 2025 and features a Tumbling Tigers Trampoline show, tiger-themed arts and crafts and two competitions to win amazing prizes.

Our education and conservation teams will also be championing tiger conservation, highlighting their partnership with WildCats Conservation Alliance.

Research and Conservation Officer, Katie McDonald, said, “The Sumatran tiger is one of the most severely threatened animals we have at West Midlands Safari Park. Numbers are decreasing in their native Sumatra, and this makes conservation efforts crucial. Along with being a successful contributor to the EAZA Ex-situ Programme, a collaborative conservation programme, which maintains a genetically healthy population in European zoos, the Park supports wild Sumatran tiger conservation initiatives.

Through our conservation partner, WildCats Conservation Alliance, we provide funding to the Kerinci Seblat Tiger Protection and Conservation Programme. They deploy dedicated Tiger Protection Units who monitor tigers in the Kerinci Seblat National Park and aim to stop tigers being poached and protect their forest habitats from being destroyed. Without such conservation initiatives, Sumatran tigers may not be found outside zoos in future generations. We hope our Tiger Takeover event inspires guests to love tigers as much as we do and they are encouraged to see what small changes they can make at home, to help tigers in the wild.”

As well as getting to catch a glimpse of the three playful cubs in their habitat, another highlight of the event is the brand-new Tumbling Tigers Trampoline show, in which guests can enjoy an exciting acrobatic performance.

There is a Tiger Trail, where guests can enter a prize draw to win a Tiger Safari Lodge stay if they complete the tiger-themed quiz trail.

Additionally, guests can win an Ultimate VIP Tour for four people by taking their picture at the ‘Love Tigers’ photo point and posting their photo to our Facebook page.

There is also the chance to hear an exclusive tiger keeper talk, make a tiger mask at the craft club and learn fun tiger facts with explorer characters Eddie and Eliza.

Guests can also purchase ‘tiger fries’ for their lunch or have special tiger face paint, available only during the Tiger Takeover event.

May half term also coincides with ‘Love Your Zoo Week’ – a nationwide event where members of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums), such as the Safari Park, promote the important work they do in nature conservation, education and research.

This year’s theme is ‘Allies for Wildlife’, highlighting the collaborations between zoos and programmes which underpin conservation, support species and form incredible partnerships all over the world.

We will be celebrating ‘Love Your Zoo Week’ at the Conservation Station and in the craft club, where guests can learn more about what we do to support wildlife all around the world and also leave their own messages of support.

All the Tiger Takeover and Love Your Zoo activities are included in the admission price
