West Midland Safari Park is a 200 acre site that combines a self-drive Safari, family Theme Park, walk-through Discovery Trail with live shows and attractions and interactive African Village and Lemur Woods.

All staff are trained in disability awareness, which is included in the Handbook of Employment and provided to all new starters during their induction programme.
All catering outlets are accessible by wheelchair users. Menus and information in these outlets are not currently available in either Braille or on tape.
African Trading Company, Jungle Bazaar and African Queen Trading area all spacious retail outlets and can be accessed fully by wheelchair users. Mumbo Jumbo can be partially accessed by wheelchair users. Help will be willingly given to reach goods on higher shelves in all outlets.
All doors are usually left open unless it is very poor weather, and full staff assistance is offered to all visitors who may require it.
All guest toilet facilities throughout the park have baby changing facilities and have wheelchair accessible unisex toilet provisions. No RADAR key is needed.
A small number of wheelchairs can be collected from reception and are free of charge. Pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Users must leave a valid drivers license or set of car keys as a deposit.
Accessibility and safety around the Park...
Arrival...
ACCESS...
Guests arriving in their own vehicle can pay at one of the pay kiosks without having to leave their car; groups arriving by coach or minibus and pedestrians may pay at the main reception. The reception desk has an accessible counter for wheelchair users.
A hearing loop is available at the reception should one be required, and may be used in the main reception, or at any of the individual pay kiosks.
A small number of wheelchairs (self-propelling using arms) are available on free loan and can be reserved in advance. Please give us as much notice as possible. A deposit of a valid driving license will be asked for, which will be given back on return of the wheelchair.
The site is accessible to prams and wheelchairs and is a mixture of surfaces including grass, bark, concrete and tarmac. Steps edges are highlighted throughout the Park.
Please note that for safety reasons bikes, scooters and other wheeled transport apart from prams and wheelchairs, are not allowed in any pedestrian areas.
If you need to leave the Park and plan to return within a short space of time, please visit reception before you exit.
CAR PARKING...
The roadway leads from the self-drive Safari to the main car park, which consists of hard-standing, grass, and coach/minibus parking. Parking is free for all customers. 37 dedicated parking spaces for blue badge holders are located next to the entrance for the Plaza shopping area.
DOGS...
We regret that animals are not allowed inside the Park. Dog kennels are available. A lock can be collected from reception for a £5.00 refundable deposit. Dogs need to remain in kennels for the duration of your visit. Kindly Note: Our kennels provide basic accommodation for your pet. Whilst drinking water is available, we do not provide water bowls or blankets. Please feel free to bring along any items that you consider would make your pet feel more comfortable.
Assistance dogs are allowed access to all pedestrian areas apart from walk-through animal exhibits. They are not allowed in the drive-through Safari for safety reasons and would constitute a breach of the Zoo Licensing Regulations. On some occasions it may be possible to leave assistance dogs at the front reception for the duration of the drive-through Safari. If they cannot be accommodated, kennels are available a short distance from reception.
Safari Drive-Through...
ACCESS...
The 4-mile Safari is generally conducted in the visitors own vehicle; or in a coach as part of an organised group excursion. Alternatively guided tours of the drive through reserves are available in our Safari Bus, but do not have wheelchair access. These can only be booked on arrival at reception for an additional charge. Guided tours are subject to availability and may be operating on a restricted service during school term time. If you are making a special journey, please telephone for advice prior to your visit to avoid any disappointment.
This drive-through area has individual large print species information boards. Guide books are also available to purchase on entry to the Park which are currently available in English. At present they are not available in Braille or on tape.
• Do not open doors, windows or sun roof when in the Wolf, Lion, Tiger, Cheetah and Wild Dog Reserves or when near a camel.
• It is forbidden for anyone to leave their vehicle ANYWHERE in the animal reserves.
• If you require help sound your horn, switch on your hazard lights and await the patrol vehicle.
• All Vehicle/Coach evacuations must be supervised by a Warden.
• Certain vehicles cannot be admitted to the drive-through Wolf, Lion, Tiger, Cheetah and Wild Dog Reserves, for example: convertibles or 3 wheelers.
• Externally mounted items such as spare wheels and wheel covers should be removed to prevent damage by Lions and Wild Dogs.
ANIMAL FEEDING...
• Do not allow animals to put their head inside your vehicle.
• To prevent an animal putting its head inside your vehicle, keep windows half up.
• When feeding our special diet animal food, hold your hand outside the vehicle and feed at arms length.
• If you should wish to stop feeding for any reason, turn your hand and drop the feed onto the roadway/grass. Move your hand to the side of your vehicle, before bringing it back inside through your window.
• Close the window to 3/4 up if an animal attempts to put its head inside your vehicle.
After feeding any of our animals always remember to use handwipes provided and wash your hands at one of the rest rooms on the park before eating or drinking.

ELECTRIC GATES...
When driving within the reserves you will find the following instructions displayed at each of the electric gates:
WARNING : KEEP CLEAR OF ELECTRIC GATES
1. If red light shows, do not enter the yellow box.
2. Keep the yellow box clear at all times.
3. Do not enter the yellow box unless you are able to exit. You must ensure compliance with these instructions at all times. Under no circumstances will West Midland Safari Park accept responsibility for damage caused to any vehicle entering or exiting the electric gates!
Discovery Trail...
The Discovery Trail comprises of Seal Island, Flooded Forest, Sea Lion Theatre, Twilight Cave, Discovery Room, Creepy Crawlies, SeaQuarium and Mark O’Sheas Reptile House. This is the main area for animal talks, encounters and shows, and also includes a number of amusement games, retail outlets and catering facilities.
There are set times for feeding displays, talks, shows and encounters, which take place in different areas. These are advertised on the leaflet that is handed out on arrival.
ACCESS...
Large print information boards and state of the art touch-screen terminals provide fascinating information on the species exhibited.
The Sea Lion Theatre can be accessed fully by wheelchair users. Reserved seating is available.
Portable induction loops are available; one is located in the First Aid Hut which can be used at the First Aid Hut or within the Discovery Trail area.Family Theme Park...
Exiting from the Discovery Trail over the zebra crossing, the pedestrianised roadway leads into the family Theme Park area.
ACCESS...
BALPPA Statement on Public Safety for Disabled People...
Members of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA) welcome visits by disabled people and will do all that is possible to ensure a safe and pleasurable stay. However, certain rides and attractions in our Parks can by physically demanding and vigorous. We therefore reserves the right to refuse admission to certain rides should we feel there is a danger to a particular individual or individuals for whatever reason.
West Midland Safari Park has been advised by the Health and Safety Executive, that refusal on the grounds of health and safety does not constitute discrimination. Decisions are purely made in the interest of safety.
Blue badge holders purchasing wristbands will be permitted 1 free carer wristband. Carers are only allowed preferential access when accompanying a guest with a disability. In some cases it may be that a guest requires two carers. Whilst only one free wristband is generally offered, each individual case will be addressed to ensure safety guidelines are met. The carer will be responsible for communicating all safety information and may have to aid the attendant in the event of an evacuation. Evacuations may sometimes mean that guests will have to negotiate steps and walkways. Carers are required to sit in the same gondola, boat, carried seat or row as the disabled guest.
Portable induction loops are available; one is located in the Wristband Office, which may be used at the Wristband Office or within the Theme Park area.
Guests who have difficulty standing in queues may use the ride exits – guests should mention this to the attendant.
All guests using our rides should have the ability to sit upright, hold on and brace themselves, for safety reasons.
Some rides are unsuitable for those with heart, neck or back conditions and expectant mothers. We advise guests to view the rides and make a sensible decision whether or not it is safe to use them.
SAFETY...
Guests must obey all signs and safety warnings, and ensure children are supervised at all times. Height restrictions apply, for details of individual rides see our Theme Park pages. Whilst on rides and attractions, please remain seated with hands, arms, feet and legs inside the vehicle. You should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by the adventure of certain amusement rides. Expectant mothers should not ride. Proper clothing, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. Visitors are informed that for operational, technical or other reasons, any attraction may have to be closed, removed, altered in type or otherwise be unavailable at any time.
African Village and Lemur Woods...
ACCESS...
At the bottom of the Theme Park area is a Hippo Lake viewing platform, and access to African Village and Lemur Woods. The hippo viewing platform, African Village and Lemur Woods are fully wheelchair accessible. The Lemur Woods is fully wheelchair accessible, but pushchairs and prams are not permitted for Health and Safety reasons.
Assistance dogs are allowed access to the main African Village and Meerkat exhibit, but are not allowed in the Lemur Woods or walk-through goat enclosure for safety reasons and would constitute a breach of the Zoo Licensing Regulations.
SAFETY...For the safety of guests and animals, please read all safety instructions on the entrance and exit to African Village and Lemur Woods. Animals in the Lemur Woods must not be touched or fed. African Village animals may only be fed specified food available for purchase at the village shop. Please ensure hands are washed thoroughly before drinking or eating if you have been through a walk-through animal area.
First Aid & Lost Children...
FIRST AID...
The pedestrianised roadway continues from the Discovery Trail to lead over a zebra crossing into the family Theme Park area. To the left of this crossing is the First Aid Hut. A full time First Aider is always on duty when the park is open to guests, and additional staff trained in first aid are located throughout the park. If first aid assistance is required contact the nearest member of staff who will be able to call up first aid on your behalf. Alternatively for minor problems go directly to the First Aid Hut and await for assistance.
Kindly note: First Aid staff are unable to dispense pills, potions or sprays. Limited stocks are available for purchase at African Queen Trading next to the Hippo Lake, and African Trading Company located in Lost City Plaza by the main car park.
Portable induction loops are available; one is located in the First Aid Hut which can be used at the First Aid Hut or within the Discovery Trail area.
If any children become separated from their group / party, then our lost children point is the First Aid Hut which is located between the Discovery Trail and the Theme Park area, OR reception which is located at the main entrance.
Anyone who has realised that a member of their party has been separated from them should report it immediately to a member of staff who will inform their supervisor to alert all Managers on the park.
