Mark O'Shea's Reptile World...

The Reptile House is home to a large and diverse collection of snakes, lizards, crocodilians, turtles and tortoises from all around the globe. You will find not only the largest and longest species of snake in the world but also some of the most deadly, including the longest and most revered venomous snake of them all – the King cobra!

All the venomous snakes are still in possession of their venom glands and fangs, meaning they are as lethal as nature intended and require expert handling by the keepers.

The Reptile House also contains a number of amphibian species including some of the worlds most poisonous and colourful poison-dart frogs and treefrogs.

Reptile encounters, featuring nonvenomous snakes and lizards, take place on a daily basis (weather permitting) in the encounter area at the front of the Reptile House. This gives people the opportunity to discover more about the reptiles in our collection during a highly informative presentation from one of our expert keepers. On busy days the reptile encounters may include some of our rarer and more dangerous reptiles, so of which are venomous, as we demonstrate and explain their amazing adaptations.

Everything from crocodiles to snapping turtles, boas and pythons over 14ft long to highly venomous cobras, vipers and rattlesnakes, and even real life dragons, can all be found in fully labeled exhibits which set out to inform, educate and amaze our visitors.
