Food
chains show what animals eat. Most food chains start off with
plants, an animal will eat a plant and quite often another
animal will eat that animal.
Humans are at the top of the food
chain as it is very rare for another animal to eat a Human.
Below is an example of a food chain.
Human
Although Humans don't eat Foxes, many people kill them as they see them as
pests. Humans are the top of the food chain as we are rarely killed by
other animals.
Fox
Foxes are carnivores and will hunt birds and other small mammals such as Rats.
They are very high in this food chain.
Bird
Birds eat lots of different insects such as Spiders, they also eat Worms and
berries. They are high in this food chain.
Spider
Spiders spin webs to catch Flies. When a Fly gets caught in a Spider's web
the Spider will eat it. Spiders are in the middle of this food chain
Fly
Flies feed on lots of different plants, they are low in this food chain.
Plant
Leaves from trees and plants make tasty meals for lots of different animals.
Plants are at the bottom of most food chains.
