Baby
animals come in many shapes and sizes and unlike Humans,
most animals reach adults size within 5 years. Baby animals
need to learn to walk a lot quicker than us so they can run
away from danger and are taught to look after themselves
at a young age incase their parents die. Instead of calling
all young animals babies, we give them names such as kittens,
cubs and puppies. |

Rhino
A mother Rhino will only have 1 calf at a time and can feed on
its mother's milk for up to two years. It usually stays with
its mother until she is ready to give birth to another calf.
The bond formed with her calf is a strong one, and the two
animals are rarely far apart. |
Zebra
A Zebra mare might give birth any time of year. Her newborn foal has brown
stripes but they will turn black as it gets older. Just a few minutes after
being born, it wobbles to its feet and within an hour can run by its mother's
side.
The foal starts to nibble at grasses when only a week old, but continues
to drink its mother's milk for almost a year. |

as their parents. Newborns are about 80 cm (2.6 ft) long and weigh 6-9 kg. |
