WMSP Informal Learning Work Experience...

Hours: Work Experience is available on a part time or full time basis, up to a maximum of 4 weeks/20 placement days. PLEASE NOTE: We get fully booked a long way in advance, when filling in your application make sure you let us know of any dates you are available.

Description: Overview: Insight into looking after small friendly animals, and assisting with talks, encounters and craft activities aimed to promote wildlife conservation.

Main Roles & Responsibilities:

The Informal Learning section plays a key role in helping raise awareness of knowledge of wildlife conservation to the Park's guests. This is done through animal encounters, talks, activities and crafts.

Work experience within the Informal Learning section will give you an insight into what it is like to work with small friendly animals, alongside a range of customer service experiences.

Placement students will have the chance to shadow:
* Daily husbandry tasks within the Learning Department animal collection,
which includes ferrets, skunks, chinchillas, corn snakes, tarantulas,
millipedes and cockroaches to name a few.
* Craft activities to help promote wildlife conservation information and
fundraising.
* Public talks and encounters around the Park.

If you have interest in talking to people and working with the smaller animals, this placement could be very interesting for you. If you are interested in working with the larger animals in the drive-through Safari, Discovery Trail or African Village then this placement will not be suitable for you and we would advise you apply for the Wildlife Work Experience vacancies when they become available.

PLEASE NOTE: You must be in education to be permitted onto a work experience placement or internship. Work experience placements give a glimpse into a role type and will allow you to shadow various job roles within a department, but they do not include full training or qualifications. If you are looking for a more in depth experience with training and hands on opportunities, please see our available internship and apprenticeship schemes.

Generic competencies:

* Enthusiasm for wildlife
* Like talking to people

From November 7th 2016 all Work Experience students must be 16 years or above to apply for placements.
