WMSP Research Data Entry Volunteer...

Hours: A typical day as a Data collection and processing Volunteer would run on a Friday from 10:30am to 1:30pm or from 12.30-3.30pm with additional hour/days available during certain times of the year.

Description: West Midland Safari and Leisure Park is dedicated to facilitating and initiating research that contributes to species conservation and the welfare of animals in our care. We also learn from conducting surveys which help us gain a better understand of our guests. Gaining insight into the knowledge and opinions of our guests ensures future exhibits, events, interpretation and talks can be tailored better to their needs, maximising conservation education opportunities.

Key tasks in this role include; carrying out face to face surveys with guests and data inputting of results for analysis, inputting of data for on-going research projects and assisting with clerical work in the Research and Conservation Department. Volunteers who prove to be reliable may have the opportunity to assist with data collection for some animal behaviour projects but this is not guaranteed.

Please note that volunteers DO NOT work alongside the keepers with the animals around the park. If any work does involve animals it will be purely observational and done from guest areas.

The role is suited to someone who is friendly, and confident in talking to a wide variety of people but also with the attention to detail necessary for data collection and data entry. The majority of guest surveys are carried out in our main walk-through areas including the Front Drive, Lost City Plaza, Discovery Trail, Adventure Theme Park, African Village and Tiny Tots Theme Park.

Volunteers are designated to a specific survey in a specific area each day and will spend part of most days surveying guests and part of the day carrying out computer data entry.

The role of Research Data Volunteer can currently only be offered to a limited number of volunteers. Various days are available for suitable individuals, but due to the time involved in meeting potential volunteers, we do look for a certain level of commitment. Volunteers are asked to support the Safari Park every week on a regular day within a specific Volunteering role.

Due to the amount of individuals wishing to volunteer in this role, we will only invite the most suitable individuals in for an informal discussion. A typical day as a Data collection and processing Volunteer would run on a Friday from 10:30am - 1:30pm or 12.30 - 3.30pm with additional hour/days available during certain times of the year.

Please note we cannot offer volunteer roles to individuals who are still of compulsory school age. If you are looking for a placement to gain experience whilst at school or college, check out our Work Experience vacancies.
